“Rebecca Tonks (Bex) is CEO of St Ewe Eggs, a family-run, free-range egg producer and distributor. The business grew from a mixed farm in Grampound in 1967 to being one of the most successful and innovative egg producers in the country.
In 2017 Bex was awarded Farmer’s Weekly Poultry Farmer of the Year especially for her approach to innovation and marketing, both locally and nation-wide and for the way the family, staff and community operate together. The business is multi award winning and has also been involved with many charity, educational and community projects.
As a retired vet I have been researching women in the agriculture, food and farming sectors. Rebecca Tonks is the first and only member of The Huers, a select group of farmers with a particular interest in innovation and so I had to investigate. She is indeed a phenomenal farmer and business woman showing inspirational leadership and enterprise.
The St Ewe eggs story, with its family and community values and nutrition at its core, exemplifies the very best of British and Cornish farming. It has justly been recognised as excellent by all egg consumers.
Rebecca Tonks is the third generation of the family to farm and develop the St Ewe Free Range Eggs business in Grampound Road.”
