ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Vertical Spectrum is a collection of small studio works by Kitty Hillier reflecting recent research into consciousness and life force.

Everyone is invited to come and experience the colourful, flowing installation. There will be drinks and cake on the opening night and a raffle to win a clay vessel. 40% of all sales support Grays Wharf CIC.

Kitty Hillier says:
“Eckhart Tolle describes the experience of mindful awareness as if being in the ‘vertical’ plane. The vertical is a deeper conscious state that intersects with the time-based, horizontally linear content of our daily life. In moments of stillness we are present. When we sink into our body, we can feel it.

When I imagine diving into this unseen yet undeniable vertical, I see a multi-coloured flow of energy. It flows like water. It is a constantly moving and changing, fizzing kaleidoscope of light and shadows. A spectrum we’ve never seen before. Humming, flashing. Alive!

Acupuncture deals with the flow of energy and spaces within the body, the fascia, the idea that the flow can be blocked. And crucially, that the blocks can be removed.

We often talk about flow as a state in which we are entirely present. In tune. Usually we experience flow state while moving our hands or limbs — gardening, chopping veg, drawing, organising a drawer, making, dancing, total immersion in a forest or body of water. Sorting building blocks by colour is an easy way to access flow. Absorption. The feeling afterwards is time has just gone, of time going very quickly, disappearing. But of course time is a constant cycle and we just went into the vertical for awhile.

Head, heart, hand connection is essential. Through practice, we can access flow and know our true vertical self. The who that is listening to the voices of the mind. To exist within the vertical upon the horizontal will strengthen collective consciousness.”
