goodbye and good luck
NAOMI FREARS
Upstairs in the School Room, there is a sunny space with a stage at one end. There are fantastic photographs of pantomimes and plays going back decades. The building is going through a dynamic change, so we will be saying goodbye to the stage - and all the glorious activity that has taken place there - by staging a series of ‘goodbyes’.
Artist Naomi Frears will make a new film marking the transition from the stage as it was (Goodbye) to what it will be (Good Luck). These goodbyes will be gathered from local people of different generations. There will be personal goodbyes, goodbyes from films, a tiny new play, and cover versions of goodbye songs performed by two local bands.
Have you performed on the School Room stage?
Do you have another connection to the building?
If so, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re creating an archive of memories of the School Room, so we’d like to hear from people who have had a connection to the building over the decades. We’d like to record a number of conversations and make them available for other people to listen to.
Please email us if you’d like to share your memories:

Some memories might even feature in Naomi’s film, with your permission of course. We’re really looking forward to meeting you and hearing your stories.
Goodbye & Good Luck is made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This project is also part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
